She graduated from CRA in 1967 as the Valedictorian of her class. She received her AA degree from Crowley's Ridge College in Paragould, AR in 1968. In the same year she enrolled in Harding University.

Fielden and Janet met at CRA in the 5th grade and began dating in their junior year. They were married on June 6, 1969. Both of them had a strong desire to serve as missionaries in Africa. They joined a group of Harding students for a 2 month summer mission trip to the Far East under the leadership of Joe Cannon. While at Harding they joined together with three other families (James and Wanda Moore, Lawrence and Faye Barr and Gailyn and Becky Van Rheenen) to form a mission team which would move to Uganda, Africa in 1972.

Janet earned her BA in Elementary Education from Abilene Christian University in 1982. In 2003 she received a MS degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Harding University. Fielden received his MA in Bible and Related Studies from Abilene Christian University in 1988.

Janet and Fielden began a two-year preaching ministry in Sterling, Oklahoma after graduation from Harding in 1970. In July, 1972 they moved to Kampala, Uganda. They were forced to flee from Uganda, by the government of Idi Amin, in December 1972. The team temporarily re-settled in Nairobi, Kenya. For the next half year they learned Kiswahili and criss-crossed Kenya prayerfully seeking where God might place them. They settled in Sotik, Kenya in July 1973 where they ministered to the Kipsigis people until 1990. That work presently consists of more than 250 congregations. When a replacement team began their ministry to the Kipsigis, the Allisons moved to Mt. Elgon, Kenya to begin a new work among the Sabaot people. That work lasted 16 years and resulted in the planting of 25 congregations. While there Fielden and Janet partnered with the Sabaot to build the Kapkirwok Primary and High Schools.

In 2006 Fielden and Janet moved to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in order to facilitate the third phase of their African ministry, which they named the Africa Institute of Marriage and Family. Since 1984 they had been actively involved in marriage and family training in Kenya. This ministry is to churches and families in sub-Saharan Africa.
